Thomas Wollny

Thomas Johannes Wollny (* the 30th April 1952 in Kassel ) is a Major General of the Air Force of the Armed Forces retired. In his last employment he was from October 1, 2007 to August 29, 2013, the chief of the Armed Forces Office .

Military career

Training and first uses

Wollny joined the Bundeswehr in October 1970 with the officer candidate battalion in Fürstenfeldbruck . After training as an officer in the Air Force , promotion to lieutenant in 1972 and studying communications engineering at the University of the Federal Armed Forces from 1972 to 1975 (graduation Dipl-Ing. (FH)), Wollny was a telecommunications officer with Telecommunications Regiment 12 in Karlsruhe until 1979 and thereafter until 1982 in the command staff of the Air Force (Fü L) III 5 (telecommunications operations management). From 1982 to 1984 he took part in the 27th General Staff Course of the Air Force at the command and control academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg . This was followed by employment as a company commander of the 2nd Company / Telecommunications Regiment 33 in Goch .

Service as a staff officer

From 1986 to 1989, Wollny was an advisor to the Air Force Command, responsible for the organization of the NATO command authorities and the organizational goals of the Air Force. This was followed by the employment as department head A4 in the air force command service command . From 1990 to 1991 Wollny was assigned to the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London . This was followed by a new post in the BMVg , this time in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü S), Department Principles of Military Organization (IV 1) and then again at Fü L, this time Department IV 1 (basic organization). Wollny held the post of adjutant to the deputy general inspector from 1993 to 1995. He was then commander of the training group at the Technical School of the Air Force 3 in Faßberg and then served in the office of State Secretaries Schönbohm and Simon. From 1996 to 1999 Wollny was deputy commander and chief of staff at the Bundeswehr Command USA and Canada and until 2003. Head of Division in Fü L III 6 and I 4.

Service in the rank of general

When he was promoted to Brigadier General in 2003, Wollny became head of staff department in Fü S VII . He held this office until 2006. After a brief assignment as Chief of Staff in the Fü S, Wollny was promoted to Major General and was from October 1, 2007 to August 29, 2013 Chief of the Armed Forces Office . His successor in office was Werner Weisenburger .

Awards

Wollny has been awarded the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor in silver and gold.

Private

Wollny is married and has two children.
