Ferocactus pottsii is a species of the genus Ferocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Ferocactus pottsii grows individually with spherical to short cylindrical, cloudy glaucoma green shoots and reaches heights of 1 meter with a diameter of 50 centimeters. There are 13 to 25 broad, blunt ribs . The straight thorns are gray. The single central spine is up to 7.5 inches long. The three to eight radiating radial spines have a length of up to 4.5 centimeters.

The cup-shaped, yellow flowers reach a length of up to 4.5 centimeters and have a diameter of 3.5 centimeters. The up to 4 centimeters long, spherical fruits are yellow.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Ferocactus pottsii is common in the Mexican states of Chihuahua , Sonora, and Sinaloa .

It was first described as Echinocactus pottsii in 1850 by Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck . Curt Backeberg placed them in the genus Ferocactus in 1961 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT) ", d. H. listed as low risk.
