Ferrovías
Ferrovías SAC is an Argentine transport company that operates suburban trains in the greater Buenos Aires area on behalf of the Argentine state . The licensed meter- gauge line Línea Belgrano Norte is 54 kilometers long, and in 2008 the almost 180 trains a day carried 45.83 million passengers.
After the Argentine state railway company Ferrocarriles Argentinos was broken up and privatized in the early 1990s, the newly founded Ferrovías received the order in 1994 to operate the line between Retiro and Villa Rosa. The first trains under Ferrovías' direction ran on April 1, 1995.
Together with the rail freight company Nuevo Central Argentino , Ferrovías operates various long-distance services between Buenos Aires under the name Ferrocentral , including to Córdoba and San Miguel de Tucumán . In 2005 Ferrovías formed the provisional railway company UGOFE together with the other private transport companies Metrovías and Trenes de Buenos Aires as well as the Argentine state . This took over the operation of the suburban railway lines of the route networks Línea San Martín , Línea Belgrano Sur and Línea Roca after the license had been withdrawn from the previous Metropolitano railway company . In addition, a subsidiary of Ferrovías, Ceseris , operated the Tranvía del Este tram route in the Puerto Madero district of the capital Buenos Aires from 2007 to 2012 .
