Festival Internazionale del Jazz di Sanremo

The Festival Internazionale del Jazz di Sanremo was a jazz festival that took place in Sanremo in the casino from 1955 to 1966 . It took two to three days in spring.

The founders were the jazz critic Arrigo Polillo and Pino Maffei.

There were, among others, Duke Ellington (1964), Earl Hines , Modern Jazz Quartet (1958), Art Blakey with his Jazz Messengers (1963), Thelonious Monk , Martial Solal , Nunzio Rotondo with Quintet (1956), Enrico Rava , Steve Lacy , Sonny Rollins , Oscar Peterson , Stan Tracey and Ornette Coleman . In February 1959 Albert Mangelsdorff also appeared with Dusko Goykovich .

The concerts were partially broadcast by RAI .

In 2006 there were concerts on the occasion of the 50th anniversary. In 2012, the energy company Unogas sponsored a continuation of concert performances that took up the name of the festival, with Rebekka Bakken and other Scandinavian jazz.

It is not with the famous Sanremo Music Festival to be confused for vocals.
