Nicola Arigliano

Nicola Arigliano (born December 6, 1923 in Squinzano , Province of Lecce , † March 30, 2010 in Calimera , Province of Lecce) was an Italian pop and jazz singer and also known as the "King of Italian Swing ".

biography

In the mid-1930s he left home to work as a singer in Milan ; later he was a singer, pianist and entertainer in Rome . In 1956 he made his record debut for RCA Records , where he first sang 78 rpm records . As a jazz singer he later celebrated his greatest successes with the songs Un giorno ti dirò , Amorevole , I sing ammore , My wonderful bambina and I love you forestiera . From 1958, numerous television appearances followed in programs such as Canzonissimaand Sentimentale , a television show presented by Lelio Luttazzi in which he sang alongside the singer Mina . In addition, he was one of the countless interpreters of Nel blu dipinto di blu .

In 1964 he had a great success with 20 chilometri al giorno at the Sanremo Festival . For I sing ancora he was awarded the Targa Tenco as best interpreter in 1996.

He had his last public appearance at the Sanremo Festival in 2005 , where he won the Critics' Prize with his song Colpevole . In 2008 his album L'altro Arigliano from 1980 appeared in a new edition, in which he also sang a Christmas carol called La sacra famiglia . His best known Christmas carol was Natale mi porterà . He had to cancel a concert tour planned for 2009 for health reasons. However, he gave a number of smaller concerts in Apulia . In the summer of 2009 he gave the Rai his last interview in his home, a retirement home in Calimera .
