Festus Agu (born March 13, 1975 in Enugu ) is a retired Nigerian soccer player . The striker has spent most of his career in Spain , Germany and his home country.

Career

In his youth, Agu played for Rangers International , in whose first team he moved up in January 1994. In the summer of the same year, the then 18-year-old went to Bolivia and joined the Bolívar Club . He was also the first Nigerian to make it into the highest Bolivian league.

In 1995 Agu moved to Spain to the then first division SD Compostela . In the following 1995/96 season , however, he was only used eight times, among other things because internationally experienced strikers such as Bent Christensen Arensøe and Ljuboslaw Penew were under contract with Compostela and because he himself had bad luck with injuries. In 1996 he moved to the second division CD Ourense .

From 1997 Agu played for eight years continuously in Germany, scoring 2 goals in 18 second division appearances. His first stop there was the league club Optik Rathenow , where the striker who was then without a contract initially only stayed. However, when the club's senior side threatened relegation, Agu got a contract and scored 13 goals in just nine games, helping the club stay up.

Then the second division Fortuna Cologne signed him . However, he could not fight for a regular place at Fortuna, where the competition in the storm consisted of Daniel Graf , Toralf Konetzke , the Congolese international Macchambes Younga-Mouhani and the later German international Thomas Brdarić . He was only used seven times and also had problems with coach Toni Schumacher .

This was followed by other stations in Germany for Agu, including at the second division Wacker Burghausen , which was over after only one season after recruitment problems. In addition, from 1999 to 2005 he was under contract with four regional league teams, including FC Schweinfurt , which he helped advance to the second division with eleven goals in the 2000/01 season . Agu had his most successful third division season at VfR Aalen , for whom he scored 14 times in just 21 games in 2001/02 . Together with his club mate Miguel Coulibaly and several other players, he finished sixth in the scorers list of the Regionalliga Süd.

In 2005 Festus Agu returned to his hometown club Enugu Rangers after differences with the coach of FC St. Pauli , where he ended his career in 2006.
