The white wine variety Fetească Albă (German: White Maiden Grape ) is an autochthonous variety from Moldova and parts of Transylvania . It is particularly widespread in Eastern European countries such as Bulgaria (approx. 1000 hectares), Moldova , Romania (approx. 10,590 hectares), Hungary (approx. 200 hectares) and the Ukraine . The worldwide distribution amounts to approximately 14,000 hectares of planted vineyards. Fetească Albă is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.

The early ripening variety produces alcoholic, very fragrant wines that are reminiscent of peach and apricot in aroma . When dry, the white wine often lacks acidity . The variety is used as a blend, for example, for the famous Cotnari dessert wine , and is expanded to produce Fetească, which is also called the Pearl of Târnave in its home region of Transylvania .
