The Altenburg fire department is responsible for the urban area of Altenburg and consists of a professional fire department and a volunteer fire department .

history

The first organized fire brigade in the city of Altenburg was founded on May 7, 1854 as a volunteer fire brigade. In November 1921, the Deutsche Erdöl Actiengesellschaft (DEA) set up a professional fire brigade on the now abandoned site of the building yard in Münsaer Strasse. The newly founded professional fire brigade primarily had to ensure the protection of the DEA plants in Rositz and Regis-Breitingen.

In addition to the protection of around 25 DEA plants, the Altenburg fire brigade had to ensure the protection of a large number of industrial and agricultural companies through fire-fighting contracts.

In 1938 a time of change began for the Altenburg fire brigade. Due to the "law on fire extinguishing", the red of the fire brigade gave way to the green of the fire police. But even this coat of paint was only intended to shape the image of the fire brigade for a short time. At the beginning of the Second World War , the paintwork of the vehicles changed again. From now on "Wehrmacht gray" was the color of the fire brigade in the German Reich. The war ended peacefully for the fire brigade, and there was no damage to people or vehicles. The Altenburg firefighters gave the first American soldiers their weapons, which they had been equipped with as members of the fire-fighting police.

The North Voluntary Fire Brigade was founded on April 25, 1969.

In 1992 the Altenburg professional fire brigade was handed over to the Altenburg city administration by the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior. The Altenburg control center was converted into a fire alarm and alarm center (FMAZ) in 1995, and alarms are now issued for the Altenburger Land , Greiz and the city of Gera from the central control center in Gera.

Since mid-2012, the professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigades in the middle and north have been stationed in the newly built fire station at Remsaer Straße 4 in the Weißer Berg industrial park . Before that, the professional fire brigade was housed in the ducal arsenal built in 1712 at Münsaer Straße 8. The volunteer fire brigade in the middle was housed in Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße 63 and the FF Nord in Poststraße.

structure

At the Altenburg professional fire brigade, 30 officers perform their duties in 3 guard departments. In each guard department, 6 officers are on duty around the clock to ward off dangers to public safety and order. The volunteer fire brigade is divided into 4 departments, an age and honor department and a youth fire department .
