The Suhl fire brigade consists of a professional fire brigade with one location and the volunteer fire brigade with eight locations throughout the city. Organizationally, the fire brigade is subordinate to the Office for Fire and Disaster Protection of the City of Suhl. Their tasks include preventive and defensive fire protection , technical assistance and disaster control .
Professional fire brigade
The professional fire brigade of the city of Suhl is the youngest professional fire brigade founded in Thuringia and has 55 officials in the upper and middle fire service . It is based in the Danger Defense Center on the Federal Highway 71 in Zella-Mehlis . 11 firefighters are assigned to each guard shift, with a staff of 5 for the tunnel fire brigade and a further 6 for the city. According to an existing framework duty schedule, they are on duty 24 hours a day at the fire brigade and then have 48 hours off, on weekends the off duty is reduced to 24 hours, but there is a long weekend every 3 weeks.
Emergency response center
The emergency response center (short: GAZ ) combines next to the Fire Service Suhl also the only tunnel fire brigade in the east, which is sent Suhl by the comrades of the fire brigade and the tunnel chain consisting of the Rennsteigtunnel , Berg Bock tunnel , tunnel Hochwald and the tunnel Alteburg together the BAB 71 secures. The professional fire brigade has several parking spaces for vehicles and technology, as well as a hose and respiratory protection workshop, wash hall, rest and social rooms and a control center for operations in the tunnel chain. The fleet of the professional fire brigade with tunnel fire brigade includes three command vehicles (KdoW), two command vehicles 1 (ELW 1 & B-Dienst ELW), a team transport vehicle disaster control (MTW-KatS), a tank fire engine 2000 (TLF 2000), a tunnel special fire engine (TSLF) ), an emergency fire-fighting vehicle 20 (HLF 20), a small fire-fighting vehicle (KLHF), a hazardous goods equipment vehicle (GW-G), an equipment vehicle respiratory protection (GW-A), an ABC exploration vehicle (ABC-ErkKw), an emergency vehicle 1 (RW 1 Bund) and an emergency vehicle technical group (ETG).
Voluntary fire brigades
There are 8 volunteer fire brigades with around 150 volunteer members in the entire city of Suhl and its districts.
Location Suhl center
As of May 27, 2009, the Zentrum location is the youngest voluntary weir in the city and is made up of the three former weirs of Suhl-Mitte, Linsenhof and Neundorf . It is based in Auenstrasse and shares the building with the medical components of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund . It counts as the largest voluntary fire brigade in Suhl and, like the professional fire brigade, takes on tasks throughout the city as well as the classic tasks of a base fire brigade .
The location center has 37 members in the operations department, there is also a youth fire department at the location. The technical equipment of the weir includes a. a command vehicle 1 (ELW 1), a team transport vehicle (MTF), a tank fire engine 24/50 (TLF 24/50), a turntable ladder with cage 23-12 (DLK 23/12), an emergency fire engine 20 (HLF 20), a fire fighting vehicle 20-KatS (LF 20-KatS Thuringia), a hose trolley 2000 (SW 2000) and a rescue vehicle 2 (RW 2).
Haselgrund location
The Haselgrund site weir emerged in 2007 from the three former weirs in the districts of Dietzhausen , Mäbendorf and Wichtshausen with the aim of improving operational readiness in the more rural districts, along with the concentration on a single location at the Zipfel in Dietzhausen. To improve the situation, a new fire station was built and a new fire fighting vehicle was procured. The outbreak area of the weir is often limited to the districts, but also to the entire urban area of Suhl.
The Haselgrundwehr has 19 comrades in the operations department, and there is also a youth fire department on site. A 20-KatS fire fighting group vehicle (LF 20-KatS Thuringia) is available to the brigade.
Oberland-Lauter location
The Oberland-Lauter location in Karl-Marx-Straße acts as the second district defense for the core city, in addition to the Suhl-Zentrum location. The main catchment area of the district defense is aimed at the residential areas of Suhl-Nord and “Ilmenauer Straße”, but the watch is also deployed throughout the city through its involvement in the dangerous goods train .
A total of 21 comrades in the operations department and several children and young people in the youth fire brigade belong to the service. To support the comrades there is a fire fighting group vehicle 20-KatS (LF 20-KatS Thuringia) and an equipment vehicle for decontamination personnel (GW Dekon-P).
Albrechts site
The smallest fire brigade in the city of Suhl is located in the Albrechts district and is located in Goldbachstrasse. Your deployment area primarily includes the district of Albrechts, but in the event of operations with a high number of crews or major incidents , the weir is also alerted to the rest of the city.
The armed forces currently consist of 6 members in the operations department. A small fire truck Thuringia (KLF-Th) is available to them for their purposes.
Goldlauter-Heidersbach location
There has been a fire brigade in Goldlauter-Heidersbach since 1738, and its current location is on Zellaer Strasse in a fire station built in 2016. In addition to the Goldlauter-Heidersbach district, the main focus of the weir's operations is on the surrounding forests as well as the Goldlauter penal institution and the Suhl-Goldlauter airfield located in the village . The weir is also used throughout the city for larger-scale operations.
Members of the armed forces are 17 comrades in the active operations department, and several members of the children's and youth fire brigade. A portable pump vehicle water (TSF-W) from 2010 is available to the weir to cope with its operations .
Vesser location
The Vesser district weir was the most remote district weir in the city of Suhl until the two new districts Schmiedefeld and Gehlberg were incorporated. With its 8 comrades in the emergency department and a small youth fire brigade, it is still the smallest brigade in the city. It is based on Schmiedefelder Straße in the center of the village.
A small fire-fighting vehicle Thuringia (KLF-Th) is available for use by the small weir.
Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig location
One of the two new locations of the Suhl fire brigade is the Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig location , which became part of the city of Suhl on January 1, 2019 as a result of the regional reform in Thuringia . Previously located in the Ilm district , the Schmiedefeld fire brigade now supports the men and women of Suhl at their location in Schleusinger Straße.
The Schmiedefelder Wehr has a personnel transport vehicle ( MTF) and a fire fighting group vehicle 16/12 (LF 16/12) available for use. The operations department has several members, there is no youth fire department in the district.
Gehlberg site
The Gehlberg fire brigade is the second of the two new city and district brigades and is responsible for the entire Gehlberg location. In 2006, the military celebrated, then still in Ilm-Kreis established its 125th inventory anniversary . The first fire brigade in town dates back to 1881, which was confirmed by a document from 1901. The fire station of the Wehr, including a 17-man emergency and 6-man youth fire department, is located on Schmücker Straße in the center of the village.
The fire brigade's fleet includes a Ford Transit personnel transport vehicle (MTF) and a former fire fighting vehicle 10/6 (LF 10/6) of the Haselgrund district brigade provided by the city of Suhl .
Competition team
The city's fire department has a competition team made up of several fire fighters. The competition team competes in the so-called "traditional competition" according to CTIF rules, in which the aim is to carry out an extinguishing attack with a team in a dry manner and to master a relay race . The Suhl team has already achieved significant victories several times.
