The Suhl fire brigade consists of a professional fire brigade with one location and the volunteer fire brigade with eight locations throughout the city. Organizationally, the fire brigade is subordinate to the Office for Fire and Disaster Protection of the City of Suhl. Their tasks include preventive and defensive fire protection , technical assistance and disaster control .

Professional fire brigade

The professional fire brigade of the city of Suhl is the youngest professional fire brigade founded in Thuringia and has 55 officials in the upper and middle fire service . It is based in the Danger Defense Center on the Federal Highway 71 in Zella-Mehlis . 11 firefighters are assigned to each guard shift, with a staff of 5 for the tunnel fire brigade and a further 6 for the city. According to an existing framework duty schedule, they are on duty 24 hours a day at the fire brigade and then have 48 hours off, on weekends the off duty is reduced to 24 hours, but there is a long weekend every 3 weeks.

Haselgrund location

The Haselgrund site weir emerged in 2007 from the three former weirs in the districts of Dietzhausen , Mäbendorf and Wichtshausen with the aim of improving operational readiness in the more rural districts, along with the concentration on a single location at the Zipfel in Dietzhausen. To improve the situation, a new fire station was built and a new fire fighting vehicle was procured. The outbreak area of ​​the weir is often limited to the districts, but also to the entire urban area of ​​Suhl.

The Haselgrundwehr has 19 comrades in the operations department, and there is also a youth fire department on site. A 20-KatS fire fighting group vehicle (LF 20-KatS Thuringia) is available to the brigade.

Oberland-Lauter location

The Oberland-Lauter location in Karl-Marx-Straße acts as the second district defense for the core city, in addition to the Suhl-Zentrum location. The main catchment area of ​​the district defense is aimed at the residential areas of Suhl-Nord and “Ilmenauer Straße”, but the watch is also deployed throughout the city through its involvement in the dangerous goods train .

The smallest fire brigade in the city of Suhl is located in the Albrechts district and is located in Goldbachstrasse. Vesser location

The Vesser district weir was the most remote district weir in the city of Suhl until the two new districts Schmiedefeld and Gehlberg were incorporated. With its 8 comrades in the emergency department and a small youth fire brigade, it is still the smallest brigade in the city. It is based on Schmiedefelder Straße in the center of the village.

Gehlberg site

The Gehlberg fire brigade is the second of the two new city and district brigades and is responsible for the entire Gehlberg location. In 2006, the military celebrated, then still in Ilm-Kreis established its 125th inventory anniversary . The first fire brigade in town dates back to 1881, which was confirmed by a document from 1901. The fire station of the Wehr, including a 17-man emergency and 6-man youth fire department, is located on Schmücker Straße in the center of the village.

Competition team

The city's fire department has a competition team made up of several fire fighters. The competition team competes in the so-called "traditional competition" according to CTIF rules, in which the aim is to carry out an extinguishing attack with a team in a dry manner and to master a relay race .
