The Gotha fire brigade consists of a professional fire brigade and five volunteer fire brigades (FF), which are responsible for fire fighting and prevention , hazard prevention and technical assistance in the 45,000-inhabitant city of Gotha .

history

The city of Gotha has seen many changes over the years due to fires and wars. City and street fires of 1632, 1646 and 1665 forced the sovereigns to issue ordinances on fire extinguishing and construction. For example, Ernst the Pious (1601–1675) ordered the erection of firewalls for adjacent buildings.

In 1737, under Friedrich III. von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg (1699–1772) again issued a fire ordinance for the Duchy of Gotha. This ordinance regulates the use of night watchmen and watchmen in the city and the villages of Gothaer Land to pay particular attention to light and fire. In the second chapter of the regulation, the behavior of the population in the event of fire was specified.

In 1786, men were for the first time obliged by the city council to permanently work at the land snake sprayer ( hand pressure sprayer with pressure hoses ). The team consisted of a syringe master and 24 men for pushing and carrying the hose, as well as 4 draft horses, which were organized at the post office if necessary.

After the fire insurance bank founded by Ernst-Wilhelm Arnoldi (1778–1841) in Gotha had built up an auxiliary company of 12 people in 1827, further fire companies were formed by 1830 and finally in 1855 the fire club was founded by Mechanicus Metz from Heidelberg. The redesign of the Gotha fire brigade began.

In 1864 it consisted of a fire director , 20 chief fire fighters, 80 fire fighters and 400 printing people, this year is considered to be the founding year of the Gotha fire brigade.

Due to the connection to the railway network and industrialization in the metal, textile and chemical sectors, the requirements for fire protection increased. The construction of a high pressure water pipeline (1873) with an elevated tank on the Krahnberg was a huge step forward . With this, underground hydrants were newly created. In 1900 a fire alarm system was installed. It sounded electric bells simultaneously in different parts of the city. 3 double strikes meant land fire, 6 double strikes called for fire fighting in the city.

In the 19th century the equipment consisted mostly of four-wheeled syringes with suction units, a two-wheeled spray gun or a hydrant trolley. 1911, a ball-bearing 21-meter was Magirus - turntable ladder procured, a year later, the first fire engine cars with rotary pump. It had an output of 1200 liters of water per minute, 60 hp, V max. approx. 40 km / h and space for 11 fire fighters and equipment.

Due to the constant further development of the technology, a team van was procured in 1919 and a fire engine with two motorized sprayers in 1927.

In 1938 a power syringe was handed over because the one from 1912 had already been dismantled; it was a Daimler-Benz vehicle with a Metz body. It could pump 2500 liters of water per minute. The nine-ton, fully automatic motor ladder from Daimler-Benz / Metz with a climbing height of 26 m came from the same year.

The year 1955 brought the new building to the sports field in Oststrasse for the fire brigade, not only did the accommodation of the fire fighters improve, but also guaranteed maintenance of the equipment. The new fire alarm and alarm center (FMAZ) with its radio technology was a major step forward.

Professional fire brigade

The Gotha professional fire brigade is divided into four civil servants in the upper fire service and 29 civil servants in the middle service . The middle-duty officers are divided into three guard departments, each of which works on a 24-hour shift to cover the fire brigade's operations in the Gotha city area.

The officials of the higher service work in the day shift and also provide an on-call duty for special situations.

The Gotha professional fire brigade provides around 1150 fire and rescue services every year. For this purpose, it is a fleet of a command vehicle , a rescue vehicle 1 , a Tanklöschfahrzeug 24/50 , an assistance Löschgruppenfahrzeug 20/16 , a turntable ladder with basket 23-12 , a small alarm vehicle, a rescue boat , as well as a swap body vehicle with the roll-off containers, AB-hazardous ( the load corresponds to an equipment trolley for dangerous goods 3), AB hose and an AB set-up are available

Volunteer firefighter

The volunteer fire brigade Gotha consists of five volunteer fire brigades that are stationed in the city center and the districts of Siebleben , Uelleben , Boilstädt and Sundhausen .

The five volunteer fire brigades are grouped into two fire brigades, with the city center and Siebleben fire brigades forming fire brigade 1 and the Sundhausen, Uelleben and Boilstädt fire brigades forming fire brigade 2. The operational readiness of the respective fire brigade changes weekly.

The approximately 130 members are called in around 200 times a year for professional fire services.

All volunteer fire brigades maintain a youth fire brigade (approx. 50 members). The training is partly taken over by the professional fire brigade.
