Fire Brigade Museum Frankfurt, Bonames old airfield

The older of the two museums is located on the old airfield in Bonames , a district in the north of Frankfurt am Main . The Frankfurt Fire Brigade Museum is sponsored by the Rhein / Main Fire Brigade Museum Association. V. The museum is housed in the rooms of a former airfield building of the former US military airfield Maurice Rose Airfield on the Nidda . This was created in the 1950s and was used intensively, especially by helicopters. When the city of Frankfurt am Main acquired the site in 1992, the museum association was founded as an initiative by 14 like-minded people with the aim of restoring and exhibiting fire-fighting exhibits there. The museum was opened on August 26, 2001 after previous voluntary work.

Today over 1000 exhibits in the exhibition document the history of the fire brigade. The exhibition includes a collection of historic vehicles, fire extinguishers , hand pressure, steam and portable pumps , uniforms and other pieces of equipment from different centuries. Among them are a complete Magirus-Deutz - an Opel logo - fire truck and a rescue truck RW RAIL . In addition, the association has certificates, documents and literature on the history of fire services. In March 2004, another exhibition room was opened for fire brigade messages and signals . The functioning vehicles of the museum can also be seen outside of Bonames on special occasions.
The vehicles from the depot are also exhibited at the annual museum festival.
