fiftyfifty is a non-profit organization that supports the homeless in the Düsseldorf area . Different life aids are offered in the various projects.

  • Over 3000 homeless people were housed or placed in new apartments
  • Over 300 homeless people were introduced to work
  • Distribution of clothing donations
  • Personal hygiene options (washing and showering)
  • Food for the poor and homeless for around 200 people every day
  • Medical help for the homeless
  • Veterinary aid for the animals of the homeless

fiftyfifty is run by the Asphalt e. V. directed. The organization is supported by various companies, the city of Düsseldorf and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as volunteers . A large part of the costs are raised through donations and benefit art. fiftyfifty operates an art gallery on its premises . Important artists such as Jörg Immendorff , Günther Uecker , Otto Piene , Markus Lüpertz , Gerhard Richter , Daniel Richter , Katharina Sieverding , Tony Cragg , Candida Höfer , Felix Droese , Rosemarie Trockel , Bernd and Hilla Becher , Stephan Kaluza , Katharina Mayer have worked for the gallery , Thomas Struth and Thomas Ruff Werke donated.

A street newspaper of the same name under the title fiftyfifty appeared for the first time in April 1995, one year after the founding of the asphalt e. V. , a non-profit association for the promotion of homeless and poor people, with a circulation of 40,000 copies. The initiators were the Brothers of the Poor of St. Francis , represented by Matthäus Werner and Hubert Ostendorf. The magazine operates local editorial offices in Bonn, Duisburg and Frankfurt and is now sold with a circulation of 60,000 to people in social need in several major West German cities. The sales price of 1.90 euros (2014) is divided fifty: fifty, 95 cents for the seller, 95 cents for organization and production.

In 2007, the two founders, Brother Matthäus Werner and Hubert Ostendorf, received the Düsseldorf Peace Prize for this . In addition, Brother Matthäus Werner was named Düsseldorf of the Year in 2011 in the “Social Commitment” category.
