content

The book begins with an explanation of the basic terms of (military) aviation, Clancy briefly explains thrust , dynamic lift , drag , engines , stealth , avionics , sensors and the HUD . He then briefly portrayed various Air Force aircraft: the B-2A Spirit , the F / A-22 Raptor , the F-15 Eagle and the F-15E Strike Eagle - with which one of Clancys employees flew himself on the seat of the weapons system officer and who publishes an experience report here. The F-16C Fighting Falcon and the B-1B Lancer are also described. There is another portrait of the KC-135R Stratotanker , a tanker aircraft and the E-3C Sentry , an AWACS . Clancy also describes in detail all modern weapons, both air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons.

The book also includes an interview with General Chuck Horner and Col. John Warden, mostly about Desert Storm . The next section of the 400-page book deals with the Air Combat Command .

Then Clancy moves on to the practical part: He accompanies the 366th Squadron The Gunfighters , which has existed since the Second World War and today operates from Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho . In this chapter, Clancy first describes the concept of the squadron, briefly goes into its history and then describes the various combat groups that are grouped together in the 366th. Clancy then sets off with the Gunfighters to Nellis AFB in Nevada to observe Exercise Green Flag 94-3 and describe it in detail. As the last chapter, Clancy writes a little thriller in a non-fiction book in which he sends the 366th to Vietnam on a fictional assignment . Here Clancy describes how a relocation of the squadron would work and lets the American unit defeat the enemy as a matter of course.
