The Roman Catholic branch church Kathreinkogel is on the Kathreinkogel ( 772  m above sea level ) in the community of Schiefling am Wörthersee . St. Kathrein was first mentioned in documents in 1385 and 1507. The church, which originally belonged to the Keutschach parish, has been a branch of St. Egyden since 1772. In 1990 excavations found the remains of the rectangular, Romanesque choir and the foundation of the altar directly in front of today's high altar . The small stone figure of St. Christopher northeast of the church was created by Switbert Lobisser in 1935 .

Building description

The church consists of a single nave, Romanesque nave and a late Gothic choir with a five-eighth end . This has large pointed arch tracery windows, their tracery is partially destroyed. The wooden roof turret is crowned by a pointed gable helmet. The simple, Gothic portal on the north side has a door with Gothic iron fittings. The western vestibule is covered with wooden shingles. To the right of the arched entrance portal is a sacrificial niche with a keel arch closure and a late Gothic braided ornament as well as an ornamental arch , to the left of the portal a mural of St. Catherine.

Inside, a pointed triumphal arch connects the flat-roofed nave and the choir with a ribbed vault resting on circular services and head consoles. On the north wall of the nave, a fresco from the second half of the 14th century with the train and the Adoration of the Magi was uncovered in 1937 .

The reliquary of the high altar shows a seal of Lavant Bishop Erhard Paumgartner .
