history

From 1130 to 1683 Kirchstetten was an independent parish. The Gothic church was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. The church was damaged by bombs in 1945. The church was restored in 1999/2000.

architecture

The simple Gothic two-aisled church building with two polygonal choirs stands on a step of the terrain sloping down towards the Ringstrasse and is surrounded by a churchyard wall and a former cemetery in the north.

The main nave of the nave from the 14th century and the shorter north aisle from the 15th century have a common high gable roof, the two choirs each stand under a lower ridge. The north aisle, a former chapel, from the 14th century has moved in to the north of the north aisle, which shows as a wall recess. The exterior of the church shows itself with stepped buttresses, with one and two-lane tracery windows , as well as with baroque arched and rectangular windows. The nave has a pointed arch portal in the north and south with profiled - later revised - walls. In the south of the nave there is a chapel and sacristy annex. The east gable of the nave has a roof turret with an onion helmet from around 1900.

Furnishing

The simple neo-Gothic altar was built in 1906. In the south chapel there is an altar retable (around 1720), the altar leaf shows the visit of the Holy Family . In the north aisle there is a crucifixion group with God the Father and the dove of the Holy Spirit from around 1720 on a simple cafeteria. The baroque pulpit was changed and moved in 1990/1991. Two canvas pictures depicting the Archangel Michael and the Adoration of Christ were created around 1600. The font on a plinth is probably Romanesque .

The organ was built by Franz Capek (1926). Two bells were cast in 1950.
