history

In the course of a parish visit on May 17, 1949 by Archbishop Cardinal Theodor Innitzer , the construction of a small church was considered. Emma Steingassner, the widow of the owner of the brickworks Martin Steingassner, who died in 1947, in turn has planned a small forest chapel, and a ceramic of St. Martin commissioned by Prof. Eltz. After a first draft by Karl Holey , which seemed too big, the building commission decided on a smaller design by the architect Erwin Plevan . On July 8, 1956 the foundation stone was laid with Reverend Msgr. Alois Penall, Director of the Archbishop's Building Office. On August 15, 1957, on the feast of the Assumption of Mary , the church was consecrated by Prelate Friedrich Pfennigbauer Abbot of Lilienfeld Abbey. In 1958, a sandstone figure of the Immaculate Conception by the sculptor Franz Barwig was transferred here from the parish church in Neusimmeringen . In 1960 a cemetery was opened near the church.
