The Roman Catholic branch church St. Leonhard an der Saualpe is in the village of St. Leonhard an der Saualpe in the cadastral community of Wölfnitz in the market town of Griffen in Carinthia.

The branch church of the parish church Wölfnitz an der Saualpe stands together with a sacristan chaste in a forest clearing at an altitude of 1218 meters on the southern slope of the Saualpe . The church was first mentioned in a document in 1351 on the occasion of a donation from Weißenegger.

The late Gothic nave was built in the second half of the 15th century, while the tower on the south side of the nave is from a previous Gothic building. The tower is decorated by round services at the corners of the bell storey and is crowned by an eight-sided pointed helmet. The bell was cast by Urban Fiering in 1555. The nave is supported by three-tiered buttresses , the choir by two-tier wall templates. The choir has three tracery windows . The west and north portals have a late Gothic profile, the north portal has an iron-studded door with shooting holes.

A ribbed vault rises above the three-bay nave over round wall services. A profiled portal leads from the north wall to the rib-vaulted tower ground floor. The ogival opening above was probably the gate to the attic of the previous building. The southern one of the two narrow tracery windows in the nave is walled up. A pointed triumphal arch connects the nave with the two-bay choir with a five-eighth end . In the choir, a ribbed vault rests over polygonal services. A Gothic portal leads from the south wall of the choir into the sacristy .

The baroque high altar from 1675 fills the choir in full. The altar consists of a triumphal arch architecture on a preach-like base and a small aedicula with lateral shell niches as an attachment. On the main floor there is a statue of St. Leonhard between the bishops Norbert and Servatius . The top picture shows a crucifixion with a kneeling Magdalena and is surrounded by two holy figures of Maria Magdalena and Maria Salome . A Vera icon painting from 1849 is attached to the back of the altar . On the left side altar from 1697 a statue of the Madonna is flanked by the figures of Saints Lucia and Barbara . The altar panel of the Trinity altar from the first quarter of the 17th century depicts the need of God and angels with instruments of suffering . The church also houses a statue of Leonhard from around 1430.
