Filippo Burgarella

Filippo Burgarella (born August 1, 1948 in Trapani ; † December 17, 2017 or December 18, 2017 in Cosenza ) was an Italian medieval historian and Byzantinist .

Life

Burgarella attended the University of Rome , where he graduated in Classical Literature in 1970. After graduating, he decided to perfect his education by attending the École des hautes études en sciences sociales , Section VIᵉ, (EHESS) of Paris under the direction of André Guillou . In 1974 he obtained the diploma of the École by writing the thesis entitled Structures mythiques de la généalogie byzantine. L'exemple de l'idéologie macédonienne submitted.

During the same two-year period in which he obtained his diploma, he was a lecturer in Byzantine history in the 1973/74 academic year at the Sorbonne Université (Unités de formation et de recherche (UFR) d'Italien et Roumain) . When he returned to Italy the following year, he was responsible for Byzantine history at the University of Calabria .

Byzantine Italy was a focus of his research.
