Filippo Giorgi

Filippo Giorgi (* 1959 in Sulmona ) is an Italian climatologist .

Life

Giorgi studied until 1982 at the University in L'Aquila physics with a focus on atmospheric physics . He then moved to the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta , where he received a Ph. D. in 1986 with a thesis on atmospheric models. From 1987 to 1998 he worked as a researcher at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder . He then moved to the International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste , where he has been head of the scientific programs since 2002.

Act

Because of his research, Giorgi was appointed to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2001 and, as Vice-Chair of Working Group I "The Physical Science Basis", was involved in the preparation of the Third Assessment Report in 2001 and the Fourth Assessment Report in 2007.

Awards

For 2018, Giorgi was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Medal by the EGU.
