The International Film Festival ContraVision is an international short film festival that takes place annually in Berlin .

history

The public festival was launched in 1993 by the Contra Medienwerkstatt association . After starting out in the Brotfabrik's cinema , until 2010 the festival had its venue in Prenzlauer Berg in the arthouse cinema Blow Up , which had mainly specialized in DEFA's film stock . In 2011 the festival was a guest in the Zeiss Planetarium , in 2012 in the Colosseum of the UCI Kinowelt and in 2013 in the municipal cultural institution WABE . The 22nd ContraVision film festival ran from March 28 to April 5, 2014 in the Central Cinema on Hackescher Markt in Berlin.

In the competition of the short film festival, films by freelance and independent filmmakers from all over the world, films from the field of film and art schools as well as commercial productions without genre restrictions are shown. The only restriction on festival contributions is a maximum duration of 30 minutes. The ContraVision Awards are given , the winners usually receive material prizes. The festival program is compiled in advance through public viewings with audience voting of all submitted film contributions. The public festival relies on swarm intelligence : the competition is decided by an audience vote.
