action

The brothers Dimitri and Arkady Belav led a revolution in the Russian state of Sakovya for independence. The revolution ultimately results in Dimitri being killed in an air strike and Arkady captured, thereby ending the revolution. After a few years, Arkady and his men believe Dimitri faked his death and torture a man to get information about where Dimitri is hiding in London.

Former US military man Michael Knox visits his late brother's house in London to watch football with his niece Danni. He had previously served on a team in Afghanistan with his brother and was the only survivor of their last mission. Danni gets house arrest from her mother for criminal behavior, but Knox manages to calm the situation down and her mother finally gives her consent that Michael can take Danni to the soccer game.

When Danni arrives at West Ham Stadium, she expresses her frustration over her father's death. Meanwhile, Arkady and his mercenaries infiltrate the stadium, take over the control room and initiate a lockdown of the entire stadium. Arkady takes Superintendent Steve Thompson hostage and threatens him to harm his family if he doesn't work with his team. Arkady then has his men blow up all the transmission towers in the city to make sure no communications are established outside the stadium. When Knox discovers that Danni is missing in her seat, he seeks help from the stadium guard Faisal Khan, an Iraqi immigrant. Reluctantly, Faisal helps Knox get into the control room. On their way, Knox kills a mercenary. Knox finds C-4 explosives in the dead man's jacket. He then uses the only working walkie-talkie to inform the police of the situation, but Chief Commander Daniel Steed doesn't believe him and hangs up. After killing two other men, Knox brings his body up on the roof and throws him down so the police can finally react.

When Arkady and the other mercenaries find out, they infiltrate the news studio and kill the crew. Arkady has a reporter read the statement at gunpoint and demands Dimitri's location, otherwise they will blow up the stadium. When he finishes giving evidence, Arkady kills the reporter and two others on live television. Steed is approached by Agent Cho, who explains that Dimitri has undergone plastic surgery and received an amnesty. They realize that the handover of Dimitri to Arkady will lead to chaos in the entire region. Arkady's team learns about the background of Knox and Danni and decides to take Danni hostage. When Knox hears them calling Danni over the loudspeaker, he saves them. Because Thompson's team couldn't capture Danni, Arkady leads him there. Knox, Faisal and Danni finally discover a bomb that is dumped under the control room and Knox draws Steed's attention to it. Hoping to end the situation, Knox decides to take Dimitri alone. On his way, Knox manages to escape Tatiana and he takes Dimitri with him. Tatiana then takes Danni hostage and knocks Faisal out. Knox eliminates the other men before they reach the extraction point, but when he learns that Danni has been captured, Cho - who ordered Dmitri to stay dead - lets his men shoot Knox, but the mercenaries hold off the helicopter. After threatening Danni, Knox agrees to hand Dimitri over in exchange for her. Steed berates Cho for risking innocent lives and taking control of the situation. A helicopter comes back and kills other men, but Dimitri and Danni are captured. After fighting Tatiana, she is impaled in the post-fall. He spots the wrong kill switch and before she dies she explains that the bomb will explode in the 90th minute of the game.

When Dimitri reunites with Arkady, Arkady vows to start the revolution all over again if Dimitri proves his loyalty by shooting Danni. In order to maintain democracy in their country and not let Arkady's madness destroy him, Dimitri shoots himself. There are only a few minutes left before Faisal is able to evacuate the audience from the Radius explosion. Arkady takes control of the live broadcast with Danni before the bomb goes off and supposedly kills both of them. As he begins to grieve, Knox discovers that the broadcast was taped 5 minutes earlier and finds that they are both alive. Knox intercepts them when they want to leave the stadium in the chaos. Danni distracts Arkady and Knox eventually kills Arkady. Danni meets up with her worried mother again and Steed thanks Knox for his bravery. Knox and his family leave the stadium.

production

The film was first announced in February 2016 and presented as "Die Hard in a Football Stadium", written by The Lynch Brothers, produced by Signature Films and The Fyzz Facility. The executive director of the Highland Films Group produced on the Boleyn Ground, the former home of West Ham United, on a budget of 20 million US dollars. In July 2016 it was announced that Dave Bautista and Pierce Brosnan would star, which also starred Julian Cheung, Russell Phillips and Alexandra Dinu, with director Scott Mann at the helm. Filming should start on August 8, 2016 in the stadium.

A small piece of football history ended in May 2016. British Premiere League club West Ham United played their last home game at Upton Park after 112 years before moving to the much larger London Olympic Stadium at the start of the 2016/17 season. After the game had already ceased, the film crew from "Final Score" moved into the football stadium in August 2016 and, with official approval, carried out part of the demolition work that had already been decided: for one scene, part of the legendary south stand with the traditional name was used Bobby Moore got blown up. The producers were hoping for a PR boost from the headlines, but "Final Score" flopped mercilessly when it opened in the UK with a grossing less than £ 16,000.

reception

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 69% based on reviews from 32 critics with an average rating of 5.03 / 10. On Metacritic, the film has an average score of 53 out of 100, based on 8 critics, which translates into "mixed or average reviews ”.

Time Out's Alex Godfrey praised the film, saying, "It's funnier, warmer and more unpredictable than it should be." The Los Angeles Times' Kevin Crust gave a mixed review. "The characters are well-known film types that are sufficiently elaborated. The fight scenes and stunts - especially a masterfully choreographed motorcycle chase throughout the stadium - and the lack of obvious CGI provide the necessary thrill."

Slant Magazine's Pat Brown criticized the film, "Watching the action film Final Score, starring Dave Bautista, be another knockoff of Die Hard may be annoying, but it's not like the film offers a wide choice as he offers. ”a ceaseless deluge of scenes from the John McTiernan classic. "
