Finn Geipel

Finn Geipel (born November 23, 1958 in Stuttgart ) is a German architect and urbanist . He is co-founder of the architecture and urban planning office LIN with offices in Berlin and Paris .

Life

Geipel studied architecture at the Technical University of Stuttgart from 1981 to 1987 . During his studies, he founded the LABFAC group of architects and artists in Stuttgart in 1983 together with Bernd Hoge and Jochen Hunger . In 1987 LABFAC Paris was founded with Nicolas Michelin.

In 2001, Finn Geipel opened the architecture and urban planning office LIN together with the Italian architect Giulia Andi . LIN's work encompasses current topics such as flexibility, openness, adaptation and context, which are examined in the context of architecture and urbanism.

In addition to visiting professorships at the École Spéciale d'Architecture Paris , the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura Barcelona , the Columbia University New York City and at MIT Boston-Cambridge, he has been a full professor of design and building science at the Technical University of Berlin since 2000 . The department is called LIA. The laboratory is mainly concerned with research and teaching related to different building typologies. LIA sees itself as a permanent research platform of LIN.

Since 2012, Finn Geipel has been a member of the Cluster of Excellence "Image Knowledge Design - An Interdisciplinary Laboratory" at the Humboldt University of Berlin . The cluster connects 22 different disciplines that form a sustainable scientific research platform.

He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Atelier International du Grand Paris (AIGP).

In 2010 he was named Knight of the Legion of Honor (“Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur”) for his urban development projects and realizations in France .
