Finn Nielsen (Landshøvding)

Finn Carsten Nielsen (born December 4, 1913 in Frederiksberg ; † 1995 ) was a Danish lawyer , civil servant and Landshøvding from Greenland .

Life

Nielsen successfully completed a law degree in 1938. From then until 1942 he was a lawyer before he was promoted to lawyer. He was also secretary in the Socialministeriet in 1938 and remained so until he was promoted to agent in 1946. From 1945 to 1949 he was secretary in the cooperation committee for international relief work. In 1947 he worked in the tuberculosis office of the Danish Red Cross and until 1949 for the United Nations tuberculosis campaign . From 1949 to 1950 he was senior secretary of the Greenland Commission. From 1950 he was department head of Grønlandsdepartements and changed in its replacement in 1955 in the newly created Greenland Ministry . From 1953 to 1960 he was secretary to King Frederik IX. and Queen Ingrid's Foundation to Combat Tuberculosis . As co- editor he was responsible for the Tidsskriftet Grønland from 1953 to 1956 . From 1957 to 1965 he was deputy in the administration of the cryolite company Öresund. In 1957 he was a member of the Council of the Arctic Institute . From 1961 to 1962 he was interim Landshøvding over Greenland. His predecessor was Poul Hugo Lundsteen in his second term and his successor Niels Otto Christensen in his third term. In 1960 he became a member of the Greenland Committee. From 1962 to 1963 he was also a member of the Grønlandsfly administration . In 1963 he became head of department in the Ministry of Social Affairs. From 1963 to 1968 he was chairman of the supervisory board of Danish mothers' aid, which went hand in hand with membership of the editorial committee of the social magazine. From 1963 he was vice-chairman of the Social Research Institute Research Council and from 1972 then first chairman. From 1964 to 1972 he was vice-chairman of the Social Reform Commission. In 1963 he was a member of the Nordic Social Policy Committee and the Social Committee of the Council of Europe . In 1964 he moved to the United Nations Social Committee, where he became vice chairman in 1966. From 1965 to 1969 he was a member of the Administrative Council. From 1966 to 1969 he was committee chairman of the state building administration and 1968 of the rehabilitation coordination.

Finn Nielsen was the son of the wholesaler Carsten Nielsen († 1947) and his wife Ingeborg Storr. In 1938 he married Else Saabye (1914–?), Daughter of Niels Listov Saabye († 1961) and Astrid Jacobsen.
