Life

O'Donnell's family, who came from Gorbal's Glasgow district , emigrated to Canada , where O'Donnell was born. When she was six, her parents moved to Fort William, Scotland . She attended a municipal elementary school there and Lochaber High School . O'Donnell began studying history and English literature at the University of Glasgow , but dropped out after three years due to her pregnancy.

In total, the couple fathered four children and lived in Port Seton , Newcastle , Banbury and Cheltenham and then settled near Perth . After initially working in a residential facility for people with mental health problems, O'Donnell worked in Perth for the non-profit organization Capability Scotland in the disability service.

Political career

After Anne Moffat , who had represented the constituency of East Lothian in the British House of Commons since 2001 , was no longer considered in the 2010 general election after several controversies , the Labor Party put O'Donnell as the successor in this constituency. On election day she prevailed against five opponents and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. In the Labor Party's shadow cabinet , O'Donnell served as junior secretary for the environment, food and rural affairs from 2011 to 2012. After the SNP gained massive votes in the following general election in 2015 , it left parliament after only one term. The mandate went to the SNP candidate George Kerevan .
