The Firth of Tay is a sound located in a northwest-southeast direction between the northeast side of Dundee Island and the eastern part of Joinville Island on the northeast tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the northwest it meets the Active Sound , which completes the separation of the two islands.

He was discovered by Thomas Robertson, skipper on the Dundee Whaling Expedition (1892-1893). Robertson named the sound after the river of the same name in Scotland .
