Fyodor Fyodorovich Chalyapin

Feodor Chaliapin , Russian Фёдор Фёдорович Шаляпин , (born September 23 . Jul / 6. October  1905 greg. In Moscow ; † 17th September 1992 in Rome ) was a Russian actor .

Life

Chaliapin was the youngest of the six children of the singer Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin and the prima ballerina Iola Tornagi. In his youth he made the acquaintance of artists like Sergei Wassiljewitsch Rachmaninow or Konstantin Alexejewitsch Korowin , who were friends with his father. He emigrated from Russia in 1924 and moved to Paris to live with his father.

Chaliapin himself had a melodious bass-baritone voice, which he - he had moved to Hollywood and had taken on some roles as an actor, initially in silent films - was later also able to use it in sound films such as Balalaika and Whom the Hour Strikes .

After the Second World War Chaliapin moved to Rome and continued his acting career there. For example, he played the character of Professor Arnold in Dario Argento's horror film Horror Infernal . 1986 Chalyapin took over the role of Jorge von Burgos in the Umberto Eco film The Name of the Rose . Chaliapin also appeared in Hollywood productions such as Moonstruck , Stanley & Iris and The Inner Circle .
