Konstantin Alexejewitsch Korowin
Konstantin Korovin ( Russian Константин Алексеевич Коровин , scientific. Transliteration Konstantin Korovin Alekseevic ; born November 23 . Jul / 5. December 1861 greg. In Moscow ; † 11. September 1939 in Paris ) was a Russian painter , stage designer and educator . His brother was the painter Sergei Alexejewitsch Korovin . He is considered to be one of the most important representatives of Russian impressionism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Much of his work is exhibited in the Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg .
Life
He grew up in the family of a long-established Moscow merchant family. At the age of 14, he entered the architecture faculty of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture . After two years he switched to the painting faculty, where he learned from, among others, Alexei Kondratjewitsch Sawrassow . He continued his education at the St. Petersburg Academy of Art , which he left after three months because of the prevailing teaching methods.
In the period from 1888 to 1894 , Korowin and his friend and painter colleague Valentin Alexandrowitsch Serow went on trips to the north. During this time and under the impressions of the travels, the pictures Port in Norway (Гавань в Норвегии), Hammerfest were created. Northern lights (Гаммерфест. Северное сияние) and Murmansk coast (Мурманский берег).
In the 1890s, Korovin designed the Northern Railway Pavilion , which was built according to his designs in Nizhny Novgorod . At the turn of the century he worked in theaters , creating theatrical costumes and decorations for dramatic performances, as well as operas and ballets .
Paris occupies an important place in Korovin's work. Here he was heavily influenced by the French impressionists .
Korovin took part in numerous art exhibitions of various associations, such as the Peredwischniki , the world of art and the Association of Russian Artists, without ever having been a member. In 1901 he took a lectureship at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture . After the October Revolution , Korowin was committed to the preservation of art monuments, organized auctions and exhibitions for the benefit of art.
In 1923 he went abroad on the advice of Anatoly Wassiljewitsch Lunacharsky and settled in France. In addition to his talent for painting, Korovin also had literary talent. In exile, he began stories to write.
