Flávio Barbosa Antonio Nogueira Cavalcanti (* 15. January 1923 in Rio de Janeiro , State of Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ; † 26. May 1986 in São Paulo , State of São Paulo , Brazil) was a Brazilian journalist and television presenter . He was one of the most famous and popular television presenters in Brazil in the 20th century.

Life

Flávio Cavalcanti worked in a variety of jobs before joining radio and television. He worked as a bank clerk, customs officer and most recently as a newspaper reporter for a newspaper in Rio. The first recordings for radio followed, in 1957 the first own television broadcast in Brazil, which many followed until his death, including one in Portugal .

In 1963 he was able to do an interview with the then US President John F. Kennedy . In the 1960s and early 1970s he had his greatest successes. After the military coup he was denied any professional activity - despite his notoriety - because he had protected the eccentric actress Leila Diniz , who had given a scandal-ridden interview to a magazine. He introduced the first jury on Brazilian television and has been dubbed the "King of Sunday Entertainment".

Cavalcanti made a comeback in the mid-1980s . After a heart attack he was taken to a hospital, where he died four days later, and was buried in Petrópolis . He was also married and the father of three children.
