British Columbia flag
The flag of British Columbia represents the figures from the shield of the provincial coat of arms as a coat of arms banner . In the upper third, the Union flag is shown as a symbol of the close ties with Great Britain, which is topped with a crown in the middle. The two lower thirds show three blue wavy bars in white that are outshone by the setting sun. The flag has an aspect ratio of 5: 3.
From 1911 British Columbia had a flag, but it was hardly ever used. It was a Red Ensign with the coat of arms of the province. The new flag was introduced on June 14, 1960 by the then Prime Minister of the Province, WAC Bennett . It was first hoisted on board the ferry Queen of Sidney society BC Ferries .
