Alberta flag

The flag of Alberta shows the coat of arms of Alberta on an ultramarine blue background . The coat of arms in turn consists of the George Cross and a representation of the most important geographical features of the province (mountains, foothills, prairie, wheat fields). The aspect ratio of the flag is 1: 2, the height of the coat of arms 7/11 the flag height.

After the introduction of the new Canadian national flag , there were discussions in Alberta about whether the province should get its own flag. An often-cited proposal was to use a Red Ensign with the provincial coat of arms , similar to Ontario and Manitoba . The provincial government finally decided on January 17, 1967 in view of the centenary of the Canadian Confederation for the blue flag, but temporarily only. The flag met with approval from the population and received official status on July 1, 1968.
