from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bat polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 362). The work was performed for the first time on February 10, 1874 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta Die Fledermaus . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 363 , 365 , 366 , 367 and 368 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The first performance of the polka on February 10, 1874 took place during the carnival ball of the journalists and writers' association Concordia . It is noteworthy that the polka took place before the operetta was premiered (April 5, 1874). The themes of the polka are taken from the beginning and the finale of the second act of the bat .

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 4 minutes and 4 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
