The Fleet Air Arm Museum is an English military museum that is primarily dedicated to British naval aviation . It has an extensive collection of civil and military aircraft, aircraft engines, models of ships (especially aircraft carriers ) of the Royal Navy , as well as pictures and drawings related to naval aviation. It is located at the RNAS Yeovilton naval base , 11 km north of Yeovil and 40 miles south of Bristol . It is the largest naval aviation museum in Europe.

Exhibits

The museum is divided into four areas and comprises a total of over 90 aircraft.

Hall 1

This hall is dedicated to the development of naval aviation, from the beginnings with airships and fabric-covered biplanes to modern jet aircraft.

The following aircraft are currently on display:

Hall 2

This hall mainly shows exhibits from World War II, but also two aircraft from the Korean War. In the passage area to Hall 3 is a collection of aircraft carrier models showing the development of these ships.

Hall 3

This hangar was set up based on part of the flight deck of the aircraft carrier Ark Royal ( Aircraft Carrier Experience ). The visitor has the impression of entering the flight deck from a helicopter that has landed on it. Several rooms are modeled on the rooms of the real aircraft carrier. Large projection surfaces with flight operation scenes and corresponding background noise give the visitor a good impression of the operation on aircraft carriers.

Hall 4

This is dedicated to the more modern aircraft and contains a prototype of the Concorde as an eye-catcher, as well as other prototypes

activities
