history

The origin of the FFG lies in the FSG ( Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft ), which was founded in 1872. The FSG built sailing ships for a year before the first steamer was laid down. Since then, special attention has always been paid to mechanical engineering. When the Bundeswehr was looking for a partner to repair vehicles and their equipment in the 1960s, the company was able to convince. In 1963 the tracked vehicle division of the FSG was founded. In 1980 the FFG was founded, which laid the foundation for independent development. For more than 50 years there has been a framework agreement between the German Armed Forces and the FFG for the equipment and repair of armored wheeled and tracked vehicles, the associated drive units and their individual parts. Today the company on the Flensburg Fjord is internationally active in the defense technology sector and has customers in over 40 countries worldwide. Over the past two decades, the company and with it the number of employees has grown steadily; the FFG now employs more than 500 people. In addition, the FFG provides training in a wide range of commercial and industrial professions. With more than 40 trainees, the FFG is one of the largest training companies in the region. The FFG was awarded 1st prize in the category of large training companies by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) as the training company of the year 2010 and 2014/15.

Company location

Due to its historical development, the company is located directly at the Flensburg harbor , in the so-called old shipyard . In 2013, FFG also took over the old Danfoss factory premises in Neustadt , which extends into the north of the city .

Fields of activity / tasks

The FFG's work areas include the development, manufacture, retrofitting and optimization of armored tracked and wheeled vehicles. The FFG also carries out repairs and maintenance for these vehicles. Another field of the FFG is aluminum technology, from the processing and manufacture of CNC milled parts to welded constructions. The FFG is also active in the fields of hydraulics, electrics and surface technology. The FFG is divided into four divisions:

WT / I technical repairs

WT / I is the FFG division with the largest number of employees. The general overhaul and main repairs cover complete systems as well as main and sub-assemblies right through to individual parts of armored vehicles. The WT / I division has specialized in the repair of defense material up to material maintenance level 4. Not only are assemblies exchanged, but also repaired and new components manufactured. The WT / I Defense Technical Repairs division is not only located in Flensburg. More than 50 employees work in customer service at FFG and look after customers and partners of FFG worldwide as a service provider.

WT / P defense technology programs

The Defense Technical Programs division deals with all types of military vehicles in the weight class up to approx. 40 tons. Upgrade and modernization concepts are developed and vehicles are modernized.

WT / A drive technology

The drive technology department has been an integral part of the FFG since the company was founded. The division has set itself the task of finding solutions for mobile or stationary applications, on- or offshore applications. This involves the new and further development but also the repair of various engine and transmission variants, or complete drive solutions. The range of services in the field of steel and aluminum processing ranges from individual production to the construction of entire assemblies. In addition to a construction and project department, FFG's drive technology has manufacturing centers in the fields of machining, hydraulics, electrics and surface treatment.

ST Special Technology (special technology)

The Special Technology division emerged from the "Heavy Tracked Vehicles" division, the name of which was initially changed to "Special Technology" and finally to Special Technology. With this division, the FFG responded to the structural change in many armies and the changed replacement requirements. The products range from the armored recovery vehicle (ARV) with a 30 ton crane arm to the pioneer armored vehicle (AEV) with an articulated arm excavator and the mine clearing armored vehicle (MC). The latter has a mine clearing flight for tactical mine clearing.

FFG Canada LTD.

FFG Canada Ltd. is a joint venture between FFG and the Canadian Industrial Rubber Company Ltd. , founded in February 2012 , which, among other things, carries out work for the Canadian WiSENT 2 AEV project on a Leopard 2 basis. FFG Canada is based in Bathurst , New Brunswick .

FFG Umwelttechnik GmbH & Co. KG

On January 1, 2017, the environmental technology division was separated from the group of companies of FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH and has been operating under the name FFG Umwelttechnik GmbH & Co. KG ever since. FFG UT has specialized in the construction of suction and flushing vehicles.

JWT Jungenthal Wehrtechnik GmbH

The Kirchen- based company has been a subsidiary of the FFG since 2007. The JWT emerged from the Arnold Jung Lokomotivfabrik founded in 1885 . JWT has specialized in the construction of hulls and recovery equipment for armored vehicles and includes a production spectrum from new production to the repair of assemblies for recovery equipment, braking systems, tanks and drives.

Rexxon GmbH

Rexxon develops and manufactures air conditioning systems for rail vehicles and military applications. Rexxon is also based on the former Danfoss site in Nordstadt.

FTN Fahrzeugtechnik Nord GmbH

FTN has been producing and renting out wheeled and special vehicles and mobile bridges since 2006. The company has been operating under the name FTN Fahrzeugtechnik Nord GmbH since 2012.
