Norbert Dürauer (born February 1, 1986 in Waidhofen an der Ybbs ) is an Austrian cyclist , duathlete and triathlete and national champion cross-triathlon (2016).

Career

Cycling until 2012

Norbert Dürauer comes from Waidhofen an der Ybbs and has been taking part in cycling races since 1997 . He was Austrian junior road racing champion in 2003 and competed in the Junior World Championship in Hamilton in the same year . A year later he was third in the mountain championship in the junior class and placed in the front field in international races. As a competitive military athlete, he won the bronze medal with the team in the 2005 military world championships in Zegrze (Poland) in the road race.

In 2006 he drove for the Austrian Continental Team Swiag , for which he also completed the Tour of Austria . At the road cycling world championship in Salzburg in his home country Austria, he started in the road race of the U23 class and reached the goal in midfield.

From 2008 to 2012 Norbert Dürauer rode for the Austrian Tirol Cycling Team under the sporting direction of Georg Totschnig . In 2010 the team took part in the Tour of Austria for the first time and became the best Austrian team. On October 3, 2012, Norbert Dürauer competed in his last international bike race at the Sparkassen Münsterland GIRO in Germany .

Duathlon and triathlon since 2013

In 2013 he switched to duathlon and triathlon competitions . He took part in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships twice: in 2012 in Las Vegas (USA) he crossed the finish line as 121st and two years later in 2014 in Mont Tremblant (Canada) as 56th overall. In addition, in 2014 he reached third place in the European Amateur Championship in Kitzbühel over the “Olympic distance” (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running). In 2015 he became European champion in the age group 25–29 of the triathlon middle distance in Rimini.

In 2016 he also qualified for the first time for the World Championship Winter Triathlon and in the elite race in Zeltweg , Styria , he finished tenth. In June he won the title of “State Champion Cross-Triathlon” (swimming, mountain bike, cross-country running) as part of the Wolfgangsee Challenge . In this discipline he also took part in the European Cross-Triathlon Championships in the elite race in 2016 ( Vallée de Joux ) and 2017 ( Târgu Mureș ) , where he achieved 17th place as the best place (2017).

In 2018 he became Lower Austrian regional champion duathlon on the short distance.

Private

Parallel to top-class sport, Dürauer successfully completed his bachelor's degree in business administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and in July 2015 the master's degree in management at the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences .
