Florenceville-Bristol is a city in the Canadian province of New Brunswick . The population in 2011 was 1639 people.
geography
Florenceville-Bristol is in Carleton County . The Saint John River flows through the village . The connecting roads New Brunswick Route 103 and New Brunswick Route 110 as well as New Brunswick Route 105 and New Brunswick Route 107 intersect in the southern and northern districts. The New Brunswick Route 2 touches the place in the west. Fredericton is about 100 kilometers to the southeast. The US -American state of Maine begins at a distance of 12 kilometers to the west.
history
The native population of the region were the Maliseet Indians . First immigrants named their settlement Buttermilk Creek , as a small stream nearby showed a whitish color "like buttermilk ". In 1855, the town was named in honor of Florence Nightingale in Florenceville renamed.
In 1957 the brothers Wallace and Harrison McCain founded a factory for the production of french fries , which soon expanded rapidly. Today, around 1/3 of all frozen French fries worldwide are produced and sold by McCain Foods . Since 1998, Florenceville has been called the French Fry Capital of the World (world capital of French fries).
In 2008, Bristol in the north and Florenceville in the south merged to form Florenceville-Bristol.
