from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Florentius von der Lippe († February 5, 1211 ) was a priest and abbot of the Marienfeld monastery .

Life

The Marienfeld convent unanimously elected Florentius von der Lippe as abbot in 1194. Although the monastery and church were still under construction - the church was consecrated in 1222 - the monastery already had an inner and an outer hospital .

Abbot Florentius obtained a letter of protection (diplomacy) from Pope Innocent III in 1198 . The ownership of 74 yards and hooves was confirmed. Other possessions were added under this abbot, in particular Otto I. von Oldenburg , Bishop of Munster, transferred a house to Broke to the monastery. The abbot also bought the Urentrup estate , which it owned until the monastery was dissolved.

The papal legate Johann protected Florentius against the arrogance of Count Heinrich I von Waldeck and Schwalenberg when he tried to reassert the donations he had made when the monastery was founded. In 1207 Otto IV. And Heinrich (V) the Elder of Braunschweig , the sons of Heinrich the Lion , gave a mountain range near Stapelage that was intended for clearing.

Abbot Florentius resigned from the office of abbot in 1211 and died on February 5, 1211. His gravestone read:

Florentius ruled for 16 years;
he resigned from office after doing many good deeds.
