Florian Aigner (born November 19, 1979 in Linz ) is an Austrian physicist, science journalist and editor at the Technical University of Vienna . He lives and works in Vienna .

Life

Aigner grew up in Freistadt ( Upper Austria ). He studied technical physics at the Vienna University of Technology and then worked on research projects in the field of technical physics (numerical simulations of quantum physical scattering processes as well as connections between quantum physics and classical physics ). He received his PhD in 2010.

Aigner has been working as a freelance science journalist for numerous media in Germany and Austria since 2008 . His main journalistic areas include the communication of science and the explanation of science, with a particular focus on refuting unscientific and esoteric claims. He is a member of the core team and was a member of the board of the "Society for the Scientific Investigation of Parasciences" ( GWUP ) in Germany from 2012 to 2016 ; in Vienna he is Vice President of the "Society for Critical Thinking" (GWUP Vienna). At the Vienna University of Technology he is responsible for science- related press work as an interface between science and the press.

Activity as a publicist

In addition to his journalistic activities, Aigner is a columnist for the “ Futurezone ”; Every second Tuesday of the month his column “Science and Nonsense” appears. He also publishes the science blog “naklar” in “ ScienceBlogs ” and is a member of the jury for the satirical negative Golden Board award . He gives lectures in Austria and Germany . In 2017 he published the popular science book The Chance, the Universe and You , which was named Science Book of the Year in the category "Science and Technology" in 2018 .
