Florian Reus (born March 2, 1984 in Würzburg ) is a German ultra runner . At the national level, he won four championship titles in the 24-hour run . In the international field, he was world champion in the individual ranking at the 2015 World and European Championships in Turin . In the team classification, he became world and European champion.

Athletic career

Florian Reus started running at the age of 18. He was inspired by an experience report about the Biel 100 km night run in Switzerland. A year after he started running, he successfully finished running in Switzerland.

In 2006 he became the youngest runner of all time to win the German championship in the 24-hour run in Reichenbach in Vogtland . From this point on he specialized in the ultra marathon discipline. A year later he defended the title in Scharnebeck , with 233 kilometers run.

In 2009 Reus surpassed the qualification norm for the German national team with a run of 236 kilometers in Palermo . In 2010 Reus started for the first time at the World and European Championships in Brive .

In 2012 and 2013 he won the title of European champion in the 24-hour race, and in 2015 the title of world champion . At the subsequent World Championship in the 24-hour race in 2017, he was unable to defend his title and finished sixth.

At the Spartathlon (246 km from Athens to Sparta) he took second place in 2013 and 2014. A year later, he achieved victory in a new German record time of 23:17 hours.

In 2018 Florian Reus ended his career in the DLV national team at the age of 34 in order to now turn to completely different facets of the ultramarathon.
