from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Florian Seitz (* 1976 ) is a German geodesist and geophysicist . He is University Professor for Geodetic Geodynamics and Director of the German Geodetic Research Institute (DGFI-TUM) at the Technical University of Munich .

Life

Seitz studied geodesy at the Technical University of Munich from 1995 to 2000 , after which he was a research assistant at the German Geodetic Research Institute until 2007 . In the meantime , he received his doctorate in 2004 at his alma mater with a thesis on "Atmospheric and oceanic influences on the rotation of the earth " as a Dr.-Ing. In 2006, he conducted research for three months at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA in Pasadena (California) , and the following year he was appointed to the junior professorship called for the field "Earth Oriented Space Research" at the Technical University of Munich. Seitz completed his habilitation in 2011. In 2012 he was appointed to the newly founded chair for geodetic geodynamics and at the same time director of the DGFI-TUM.

Florian Seitz has been a member of the German Geodetic Commission and a member of the board of the satellite geodesy research group since 2012 . In 2018 he became President of the Earth Rotation Commission of the International Astronomical Union .

His work focuses on satellite geodesy and research into dynamic processes and interactions in the earth system.
