In the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 , Costa ran for 9th place on the PD's party list, but failed because the PD only won seven seats in the East Timor’s national parliament . But since members of the government have to give up their parliamentary seat, Costa moved up as a member of parliament. She did not take office, so that again Luís Mendes Ribeiro moved up for her in parliament.

In the 2018 parliamentary elections , Costa no longer ran.
