Flower A. Newhouse (born Mildred Arlene Sechler , born May 10, 1909 in Allentown , Pennsylvania , † July 8, 1994 ) was an American Christian mystic and spiritual teacher.

Childhood and youth

She was born as Mildred "Mimmi" Arlene Sechler in Allentown. Her father died of a heart defect when she was seven years old. Her mother, Jennie Romig Sechler, was a hatter. Mildred had a sister, Beatrice, who had been blind since she was five. She insisted on the name "Flower" since she learned to speak. She had a lifelong relationship with her mother and sister.

She stated that she had had a strong clairvoyant gift and a natural, mystical love for Jesus Christ from childhood . Her friends saw this talent reflected in their written and oral testimonies, as well as in their lives.

Newhouse, according to her testimony, first noticed she was clairvoyant at the age of six. She was on the Staten Island Ferry in New York Harbor with a friend of the same age . She saw a group of water spirits and then showed for her friend. She thought it was a fantasy game and answered with her own imagined inventions. Flower was shocked that she apparently saw a world invisible to others and then kept silent about it for many years.

When she attended high school, her teachers gave her a series of written assignments. This gave her the opportunity to initially share something of her natural wisdom. The teachers were so impressed that they invited Flower to their apartments, which started her teaching career.

Career

In 1924, Newhouse moved with her mother and sister to Los Angeles , where she soon became a sought-after guest speaker in churches and lecture halls. Word of her unique talent and convincing sincerity soon spread. Within a short period of time she was traveling regularly to Santa Barbara and San Francisco and much to Southern California . At one of these lectures she met her future husband, Laurence Newhouse.

In 1940 the couple founded Questhaven Retreat and the Christward Ministry in northern San Diego County . Here she spoke and wrote in detail about the world of angels and the wisdom teachings on which "Living the Life" is based. She saw this not as a doctrine but as a practical guide to a direct, immediate experience of God . Newhouse saw her task also in bringing mankind back to an experience of angelic worlds, a work that she began with her first book in 1937 and continued in many other writings and recorded lectures until the end of her life in 1994.
