Floyd Council
Floyd Council (* 2 September 1911 in Chapel Hill , North Carolina ; † 9. May 1976 in Sanford , North Carolina) was an American blues - guitar , mandolin player and singer. In the 1930s he made recordings with Blind Boy Fuller and solo. On some boards, he is called "Blind Boy Fuller's buddy" (Blind Boy Fuller's sidekick) out. Other recordings appeared under the names "Dipper Boy Council" and "The Devil's Daddy-in-Law" (the devil's father -in- law) .
His career as a musician began on the streets of his hometown, where he made music with friends. There he was discovered in 1937 by a talent scout from a record company. According to his own statements in a late interview, he recorded a total of 27 pieces in the following years. In the 1960s his career was stopped by a stroke . He died in 1976 in his birthplace.
The "Floyd" in Pink Floyd
Roger "Syd" Barrett put the name of his band Pink Floyd, founded in 1965, together from the first names of Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, of which he wrote in Paul Oliver's cover text for the 1962 Blind Boy Fuller LP "Country Blues 1935 -1940 “(Philips BBL-7512) had read: " Curley Weaver and Fred McMullen, (...) Pink Anderson or Floyd Council - these were a few amongst the many blues singers that were to be heard in the rolling hills of the Piedmont, or meandering with the streams through the wooded valleys. "
