The Ōita Airport ( Japanese 大分 空港 ) is a small commercial airport on the Japanese island of Kyushu with flights to Japan, South Korea , Shanghai and China , which mainly serves the cities of Ōita and Beppu . It is located on the area of the city of Kunisaki and was opened in 1957. The airport Oita applies to the Japanese legislation as airport 2nd class .
It is only open between 7:30 am and 9:30 pm. The runway was expanded in several steps from initially 1080 m to now 3000 m. Due to the lack of space, land had to be piled up again and again.
The airport is 25 km north of Ōita, but it is separated from the city by Beppu Bay , where Beppu is located. For better accessibility there is therefore a regular express connection to the city of Ōita by hovercraft .
