The Brunei International Airport ( English Brunei International Airport ; malay Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Brunei , Jawi لاڤڠن تربڠ انتارابڠسا بروني ; ICAO code WBSB , IATA code BWN ) is the only international airport of the Sultanate of Brunei .
The airport, which was built in 1974, is the home airport of the Royal Brunei and is located near the town of Mukim Berakas in the Brunei-Muara district . In 2015, 1.71 million passengers were handled.
From German-speaking countries Brunei is served by Singapore Airlines via Singapore ; Malaysia Airlines flies via Kuala Lumpur .
Infrastructure
The airport has an asphalt runway (direction 03/21) with a length of 3658 meters at a height of eleven meters.
Expansion since 2008
The airport has been subject to an expansion and renovation concept since 2008. Phase 1, planned to run until 2014, was completed on October 1, 2013, with the opening of the renovated passenger terminal and a new cargo terminal. The passenger capacity was increased to three million per year. In a second phase, presumably from 2020, a new passenger terminal is to be built that will allow up to eight million travelers per year.
