The Gdynia-Kosakowo airport , Polish port lotniczy Gdynia-Kosakowo is a planned civilian airport in Poland . It was first opened in 1935 as a civil airfield under the name Gdynia-Rumia Zagórze . After the Second World War, the area has so far served exclusively as a military airfield for the Polish Navy ; it is called the 43rd Naval Aviation Base , 43rd Baza Lotnictwa Morskiego . The airfield is located in the municipality of Gmina Kosakowo a few kilometers north of Gdynia city center, directly on the Baltic Sea coast.

It serves the Naval Aviation Brigade , Polish: Brygada Lotnictwa Marynarki Wojennej (BLMW) of the Polish Navy as a military airfield , since the beginning of 2011 under the name 43rd Baza Lotnictwa Morskiego (43rd BLM). Mainly helicopters, training and small transport aircraft are stationed here.

Civil use

A civil joint use of the naval airfield by low-cost airlines was planned for 2013, but the GmbH founded for the implementation went bankrupt on August 21, 2014 .

The multi-day Open'er Festival has been taking place on the airfield since 2006 .
