Bismark stone grave

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The large stone grave Bismark was a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic deep-engraving ceramic culture near Bismark in the district of Stendal , Saxony-Anhalt . The facility was destroyed in 1838, but could still be examined beforehand. The field name "the stone bed" indicates a possible second large stone grave near Bismark.

location

The exact location of the grave is not known. It is only noted that it was close to Bismark.

description

The grave was demolished in the spring of 1838 by the councilor Genthe. According to his brief description, it had a giant bed that enclosed a probably quite small chamber. The large capstone was already missing when the grave was demolished. Information on the orientation and dimensions of the system have not been handed down. The exact type of grave can no longer be determined.

Remnants of bones were not discovered. In the found grave goods , there was a ceramic vessel, two flint - axes and ax from ground hornblende . The vessel was smashed by the workers when it was discovered and its broken pieces were not saved. The hatchets and ax are now in the collection of the Johann Friedrich Danneil Museum in Salzwedel .
