The Invercargill Airport (engl. Invercargill Airport, IATA code: IVC; ICAO NZNV) is located in the city of Invercargill in the region Southland on the South Island in New Zealand .
During the 1950s, the airport was used as the US Air Force base for Operation Deep Freeze . Large aircraft taking off from here to McMurdo Station in Antarctica use JATO missiles for takeoff.
