The Leh airport is an airport in Leh in the Indian union territory of Ladakh . It is named after the Lama Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, who died in 2003 .

Location and directions

Geographical location

The airport is located about three kilometers southwest of the city of Leh on National Highway 1D (NH 1D), which is also known as the Srinagar- Leh Highway.

Navigation aids

The airport has various navigation aids. The non-directional radio beacon (NDB) transmits on the frequency: 1053  kHz with the identifier: LA . The rotating radio beacon (VOR) transmits on frequency : 115.7  MHz with the identifier: LEH . A distance measuring equipment (DME) is present.

planning

There are plans to build a new airport northwest of Basgo. This would take over the civil air traffic of Leh but also serve the Indian military. Leh Airport would then be used exclusively for military purposes.
