The Mbuji-Mayi Airport ( IATA code : MJM ; ICAO code : FZWA ) is the airport of Mbuji-Mayi , capital of the province of Kasai Oriental in the Democratic Republic of Congo . Congo Airways has stopped flying to Mbuji-Mayi since December 2015 due to the poor condition of the runway.
Incidents
On December 24, 2015, a 30-year-old Airbus A310 ( aircraft registration number 9Q-CVH ) operated by Service Air crashed while landing on a flight from Lubumbashi to Mbuji-Mayi. During the third attempt to land, the aircraft touched down in the middle of the runway and came to a standstill around 500 meters after the runway in residential buildings. Eight people in the houses were killed. It was raining heavily at the time of the accident.
