The international airport Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II ( Indonesian Bandara Internasional Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II , IATA : PLM , ICAO : WIPP ) is the international airport of Palembang , the capital of the Sumatra Selatan province . It is located approximately 15 km northwest of downtown Palembang.
In 2006 1.48 million passengers were moved.
The international destinations Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia as well as Singapore and the Indonesian destinations Jakarta (on Java ), Jambi (on Sumatra ), Batam ( Riau Islands ) and Pangkalpinang (on Bangka ) are served.
The name of the airport refers to Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II (1767–1862), the last Sultan of Palembang.
Incidents
- On January 1, 1966, a Douglas DC-3 / C-47A-80-DL ( aircraft registration PK-GDE ) and a Douglas DC-3 / C-47A-25-DK ( PK-GDU ), both operated by Garuda Indonesia , collided in the air during the approach to Palembang Airport. Both planes crashed into a swamp, all 34 occupants of the two planes were killed.
